PUISSERGUIER (Puècherguier)

 

Leaving the Tourist Office, turn right and pass the statue of the “Marianne”,then first right in to the Rue de la Republique, the principal shopping street of Puisserguier.



Turn right in to the Rue Bastille and continue along the Rue de la Coquille. At the junction of the Rue Mirabeau you can see high on the wall a seashell, sculptured in stone - the symbol of the Pilgrims en route to Saint Jaques de Compostelle.Turn left in to the Rue Mirabeau to arrive in the Place de l'Eglise. Turn left and then right in to the Rue de la Presbytere, continue straight for a short distance to a small courtyard, the Rue du Four, turn right in to Rue Rouget de l'Isle and pass through an arch. Turn right in to Rue Thiers go up the hill, and shortly you will arrive in the Place de l'Eglise. Here you will be able to visit the Church of Saint Paul. Opposite the Church is the House of the Consulates, that was once used as the Town Hall. Leave the Place de l'Eglise by way of the road on your far left, the Rue Vauban..Take the first road on the left called Rue du Chateau and continue along this road to the Impasse Lapeyronie and then in to the Rue Parmentier to make a complete tour of the walls of the chateau.
In these last two roads you will find two identical wells, which once communicated by underground passages to the Chateau of Maureilhan and the Priory of Staint Christophe. Turn left in to the Rue Vauban, the right in to Rue Mirabeau, then finally right in to the Rue Jean Girves, at the end of which, are the old steps from the chateau and some of the remains of the old town walls. At the bottom of the steps turn right in to the Promenade to bring you back to theTourist Office.
